A promotion into management at Mvalor Group is an honor reserved for the most competent and confident personality, the hardest worker, and the most ambitious; someone just like Cody Burgess, newest Assistant Manager here in our Irving-based office!
We had the opportunity to recently sit down with Cody and ask him about his time with the company and how he achieved this recent promotion!
Alright, Cody – tell us where you’re from and what you were like as a kid!
I’m from a small, simple town called Folkston, GA where everyone knows everyone! I grew up in a single parent household with a younger sister, both of whom are my motivation at work every day. My mom did everything in her power to provide us a great life and I grew up social and outgoing because of her example.
How did sports help shape you into a leader?
Sports taught me that you have to put in the time to get the results. I used to believe that people were just gifted with talent, and while that is true, work ethic is what wins championships. Sports made me competitive, taught me about teamwork, and showed me how to lead through action.
What did you do following your graduation?
I started working at a nearby jail as a Corrections Officer and while the work was challenging, there was ZERO room for growth or professional development. I spent my days babysitting grown men and after a year of that, I knew I needed something where the company had clear advancement structure.
Why Mvalor Group?
The company literally teaches you how to be an entrepreneur and run a small business. I’ve always known that I wanted to work for myself, but didn’t know in what industry or capacity. Now I literally have a blueprint for success that has guided me from an entry level marketing/sales position into an upcoming management role where I’ll oversee a new office location for our client and organization.
How do you picture the company growing over the next 5 years?
I definitely foresee Mvalor Group expanding into another 20 locations across the United States and beginning our growth into the UK. With the talent our company currently has, we will be international and further focused on providing opportunity worldwide. I believe that our business model is unique and that there are thousands of people that could benefit from our client’s telecom services or employment within Mvalor Groups’s Management Training Program.
What words of advice do you have for someone starting at Mvalor Group?
I have three pieces of advice: 1) Be humble – you don’t know everything and certainly won’t learn anything without having humility. 2) Be hungry – If you don’t have a desire to improve yourself as a person and professional, no one in the company has time to hold your hand until you decide to be motivated; you’ve got to want it here. 3) You’ve got to have a bigger sense of purpose. For me, it’s providing for my mom and sister, to someone else it could be something totally different. The most important key to success is having an internal motivation that pushes you even when your faith in what you’re doing falters. If I can do it, anyone can do it.
